Groundwater

For more than two-thirds of the population, it is the only source of daily water needs. Like total water flow, groundwater flow has been declining for many years. According to the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW), annual groundwater withdrawals (including spring water) by public water suppliers have declined from 4.79 billion cubic meters since 1990, falling steadily in recent years to about 3.6 billion cubic meters.
